Aluminium roofing FAQs

What are the pros and cons of aluminium roofing?

The pros: aluminium roofing is corrosion resistant, durable, light, malleable and easy to work with. The sleek, smooth aesthetic means that it looks great, too.

The cons: with an aluminium roof, you will need to perform some maintenance every few years. This is to be expected, however. Also, given that aluminium roofs are fairly niche, not many contractors will specialise in their installation. Luckily, Salmon Solutions do offer such a specialist service, and would be happy to talk you through the finer details.

Does aluminium roofing attract lightning?

No - this is a common misconception. Aluminium roofs will not attract lightning - nor will any other metal roof, for that matter. Whether a structure will be struck by lightning is determined by factors such as size, location and surrounding geography.

Can I install a skylight in my aluminium roof?

There is nothing stopping you installing a skylight in your aluminium roof, or any metal roof. However, it’s always easier to install a skylight when the roof itself is being installed, so be sure to involve the skylight installers during the initial stages of the roof design.

Remember: weather such as rain, hail and snow can cause moisture issues for skylights. If you live in an area where such weather is common, this should certainly be taken into consideration.

Are aluminium roofs available in different colours?

Yes, aluminium roofs are available in a variety of different colours, from lighter or darker shades of grey to something a little more colourful. Contact our team to discuss which colours you have in mind.

Why is aluminium used for roofs?

As one of the most popular roofing materials around, aluminium is used for a variety of reasons. Aluminium’s durability and corrosion resistance means that it can be formed into long-lasting roofs, and its malleability and light weight makes it very easy to work with.
