Does aluminium roofing attract lightning?
No – this is a common misconception. Aluminium roofs will not attract lightning – nor will any other metal roof, for that matter. Whether a structure will be struck by lightning is determined by factors such as size, location and surrounding geography.
Can I install a skylight in my aluminium roof?
There is nothing stopping you installing a skylight in your aluminium roof, or any metal roof. However, it’s always easier to install a skylight when the roof itself is being installed, so be sure to involve the skylight installers during the initial stages of the roof design.
Remember: weather such as rain, hail and snow can cause moisture issues for skylights. If you live in an area where such weather is common, this should certainly be taken into consideration.
